DESCRIPTION:<p>This week  Ding Ma will be presenting on Thompson and Barnes (2014), "Periodic Variability in the Large-Scale Southern Hemisphere Atmospheric Circulation:"<!--break--><span>Thompson and Barnes (2014) identified a Southern Hemisphere baroclinic annular mode, which corresponds to the 20- to 30-day periodicity in the extratropical atmospheric circulation. It was suggested that the periodicity results from feedback between extratropical baroclinicity and eddy heat flux.</span></p>
