SUMMARY:ClimaTea Journal Club
DESCRIPTION:
This week Marty Singh will be discussing Shaw and Voigt (2015) "Tug of war on summertime circulation between radiative forcing and sea surface warming." Here are his thoughts on the paper: The authors use atmospheric GCM simulations with fixed sea-surface temperatures to investigate the roles of radiative forcing and sea-surface warming on the summertime circulation. They find that the direct radiative effect of CO2 opposes the effects of sea-surface warming in many tropical regions. The authors argue that this may be understood based on changes in the land-sea thermal contrast associated with each forcing through the convective quasi-equilibrium framework.
