SUMMARY:Journal Club: "Implications for future climate change"
DESCRIPTION:

GS Tom Laakso will discuss Goldblatt and Watson (2012), "The runaway greenhouse: implications for future climate change, geoengineering and planetary atmospheres" (attached). He tells us what he has in mind below:

"In his recent book, James Hansen suggested that unrestrained fossil fuel burning will lead to a catastrophic runaway greenhouse. Goldblatt & Watson 2012 consider the validity of this claim. Though Hansen's comment is a bit of a strawman, it provides an excuse to think carefully through some interesting climate physics. This is a slightly unorthodox choice, but I'm hoping it will be a fun discussion to start the semester, and an alternative to our usual diet of politically charged Nature/Science papers!"
