 Speaker: Feng Ding

We are glad to have **Feng Ding** to introduce **a recent debate** regarding whether Juno’s gravitational measurements can be used to infer Jupiter’s jetstream structure.

During the discussion, Feng will cover the below points:

 1. The Juno gravitational measurements have revealed that Jupiter’s gravitational field is north-south asymmetric.

 2. [Kaspi et al.](https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=https-3A__www.nature.com_articles_nature25793&d=DwMFaQ&c=WO-RGvefibhHBZq3fL85hQ&r=_hcnZafjdXI_upoeq3-1zG1kheP2GgQyyISolhoS3z8&m=DcqNsW0gV4B6K6KNiqWDh0LN6jEbgJJ95N1K6-znazk&s=rqjr4YRk8xOgOzkl4uZQ1x1qMapve5ZmcdDnwCLa9tc&e=) (2018) invert the measured gravity values into the wind field and show that the observed jet streams extend from the cloud level down to depths of thousands of kilometers.

 3. A recent paper by[ Kong et al.](https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=http-3A__www.pnas.org_content_115_34_8499&d=DwMFaQ&c=WO-RGvefibhHBZq3fL85hQ&r=_hcnZafjdXI_upoeq3-1zG1kheP2GgQyyISolhoS3z8&m=DcqNsW0gV4B6K6KNiqWDh0LN6jEbgJJ95N1K6-znazk&s=c6SC04vBOguxf15g2O7pyDFx-xMvVzCQP_ebQUkMpWA&e=) (2018) argues that the antisymmetric gravitational field could be explained by both the shallow and deep jet scenarios, which demonstrates the nonunique nature of the gravity inverse problem.
